Nubian Message goes digital

Nubian Message front pageThe NCSU Libraries has released a fully searchable digital archive of the Nubian Message, NC State’s voice of the black student experience. Through a partnership with NC State Student Media, back issues from the newspaper’s initial issue in 1992 through 2005 are online through the Libraries’ Rare and Unique Digital Collections

These collections represent campus and student life and include the Technician newspaper and the Agromeck yearbook (both digitized through 2005) as well as university history images. The Nubian Message addition consists of over 200 issues of the newspaper, comprising over 1,700 pages of content held in the Special Collections Research Center.

WKNC launches new podcast offering legal help for students

Legal Werk imageWKNC 88.1 FM recently launched the new podcast “Legal Werk,” featuring in-depth interviews with lawyers from NC State University Student Legal Services. Now in its fourth episode, the podcasts address issues commonly faced by students. Episodes are broadcast on-air, as part of the weekly public affairs program “Eye on the Triangle,” and then podcasted via iTunes.

Gilbert completes EOI training

Student Media Associate Director Jamie Lynn Gilbert was honored as one of 62 first-year graduates of NC State's Equal Opportunity Institute at a reception April 27 at the James Hunt Library on Centennial Campus. Gilbert focused her training on incorporating more inclusive language to recognize and respect diversity in gender identity and sexual orientation.

Cathell, Tate honored at 2016 LEAD awards

NC State Student Media's student leaders and organizations earned a variety of honors at Student Leadership & Engagement's 2016 LEAD Awards Monday evening at the Talley Student Union.

Emma Cathell, a senior studying social work and Spanish, received the "Model the Way" award for her work with Technician, both as editor of the paper's bilingual "Bienvenidos" section and as an editor and contributor for other sections of the paper.

Mark Tate, a senior studying business administration, earned the "Enable Others to Act" award. Tate has been the manager of the Student Business & Marketing office for two years.
