Student Media to measure design proficiency and non-fee income

Student Media has selected two departmental objectives to assess during the 2014-2015 academic year. The first objective - Student Media staff will be knowledgeable of current journalism, broadcasting and marketing practices in print, audio, video and online - will be assessed according to the staff's proficiency in using appropriate technology. The second objective - Student Media will diversify its financial resources - will be evaluated through its progress toward generating additional revenue to reduce its reliance on student fees.

WKNC snags CMJ award nominations

For the second year in a row, WKNC 88.1 FM has earned three nominations in College Music Journal's College Radio Awards. Now in their 10th year, the CMJ college radio awards honor college stations and music industry personnel in such categories as "Best Taste in Music" and "Please Hire Me When I Graduate."

WKNC is again nominated for Best Community Resource and Biggest Champion of the Local Scene also counts WKNC as a repeat finalist. WKNC is a first-time finalist for Best Use of Limited Resources.

WKNC hosts more Fridays on the Lawn

WKNC 88.1 FM has announced the remaining dates and lineups for its Fridays on the Lawn concert series. The semester's second FOTL show will be Friday, Oct. 3. Carborro's Flesh Wounds will headline, with support by Zack Mexico from Kill Devil Hills.

Business and Marketing Manager Job Posted

Student Media is now accepting applications for a full-time Business and Marketing Manager. This SPA position is responsible for the maximization of revenues from advertising sales, merchandise sales and service fees totaling nearly $400,000 per year, an amount that accounts for about half of Student Media’s annual operating budget.
