History

Founded in 1919 when Pi Delta Epsilon merged with Aplha Phi Gamma, the Society for Collegiate Journalists is the nation’s oldest and most prestigious organization dedicated to college journalists. The organization comprises about 800 active members in 80 active chapters.

Each year, the National Council opens up submissions for a national awards contest, including the Medal of Merit Certificate, Presidential Citation and the SCJ Student Journalist of the Year.

Local chapters, including the N.C. State Chapter for the Society of Collegiate Journalists, sponsor seminars, events and information distribution throughout the year to inform their campuses about topics related to journalism.
