About SCJ

The Society for Collegiate Journalists is a national honor society whose purpose is to:

  • improve the quality of student media at the college level,
  • teach the ethics, techniques and mechanics of such media and encourage student participation,
  • and promote the understanding of and the support of freedom of student expression, including freedom of speech and press for all college students.

The NCSU chapter is an honorary, service-oriented organization that promotes journalism on campus and strives to create an environment that will encourage an exchange of ideas among members of the campus community.

The chapter sponsors various activities to increase campus awareness of media-related issues, especially those centered around the First Amendment and the Freedom of Information Act.
